The archaeological site of Pisac

If there is one thing to do in Pisaq it’s its archaeological site. The Archaeological Complex of Pisac is a testimony to the ingenuity of the Inca civilization. Strategically located at the entrance to the Sacred Valley, Pisac served not only as a military fort to protect the valley, but also as a ceremonial and agricultural center.

You can see the famous agricultural terraces Incas of Pisac on the slopes of the mountains. They are designed to optimize agricultural production in different microclimates.

Fun fact: These terraces not only demonstrate the ability of the Incas to adapt to their environment, but they still inspire modern agricultural sustainability techniques today.

Pisaq also contains a religious area with temples and altars. One of the most notable elements is the Intihuatana, a sundial used to mark solstices and equinoxes, essential for agricultural planning and religious festivities. This place was not only a centre of astronomical observation, but also a space of connection with the cosmos, pachamama (mother earth) and apus (spirits of mountains).
